Design: Bodil Bødtker-Næss

The iconic motif on the table runner celebrates Christmas as the season of goodwill and is a nostalgic signature design in the damask collection. The runner can be placed directly on the table or over a white damask tablecloth for a more formal expression.

Bodil Bødtker-Næss, who was one the inner-circle of textile designers at Georg Jensen Damask in the 1970s, designed the motif. She was also responsible for the classic Easter design from the same period. The braided Christmas hearts and stylised spruce twigs have represented the quintessence of Christmas atmosphere for more than 40 years and the design is an essential part of Christmas in many Danish homes.

The colour combination of Blue Gold was taken from the original design proposal from 1975, when the designer had envisioned a blue version of the design. It would be 40 years before this became a reality however. The subdued blue gives the table runner a modern look and makes it an elegant alternative for laying a classic Christmas table in slightly more unconventional colours. Matching napkins woven in linen complete the expression.

The CHRISTMAS RUNNER is also available as tablecloths, placemats, napkins.

About Damask

Georg Jensen Damask is a culture bearer within Danish design tradition as well as the history of craft. Our history is built on proud weaving traditions since 1756, but members of the family behind Georg Jensen Damask have been weavers all the way back to the 1500s.  The weaving is based on a classic design with a focus on functionality and quality both back then and today.

Throughout times we have worked together with some of the most acknowledged weavers, designers and architects, for example Arne Jacobsen, Cecilie Manz, Andreas Engesvik, Margrethe Odgaard and Nanna Ditzel. Furthermore, we have been involved in several projects with the Royal Danish Court and we are proud to call ourselves Purveyor to Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark.
