Design Susanne Brenøe

A timeless table runner that catches the moment where the flowers fall from the trees and land gently below them in the month of May. The table runner creates a summery and feminine mood with its organic mode of expression, where flower petals spread out from its centre. The table runner can be placed directly on the table for a light and poetic expression, or on a white damask tablecloth for a more ceremonious expression.

The MAY design is handpicked from our archives, which are full of beautiful textile designs with timeless appeal. The motif was originally designed by the painter and graphic designer Susanne Brenøe in 1989 and inspired by the landscape in May, where the trees are in full bloom and even the falling leaves are full of poetry. The design promotes the beautiful sight of small white flower petals that have randomly landed on the table runner after the hawthorn has come into bloom.

The Rye colour illuminates the simple motif of fleeting flowers against the brown shading, which was inspired by rolling fields of rye. The table runner exudes a Scandinavian elegance, which can provide the foundation for everything from a simple monochrome table to a multi-coloured poetic narrative all year round, complete with branches, grasses and flowers of the season.

The MAY design is also available as tablecloths and placemats. Matching napkins woven in linen complete the expression.

About Damask

Georg Jensen Damask is a culture bearer within Danish design tradition as well as the history of craft. Our history is built on proud weaving traditions since 1756, but members of the family behind Georg Jensen Damask have been weavers all the way back to the 1500s.  The weaving is based on a classic design with a focus on functionality and quality both back then and today.

Throughout times we have worked together with some of the most acknowledged weavers, designers and architects, for example Arne Jacobsen, Cecilie Manz, Andreas Engesvik, Margrethe Odgaard and Nanna Ditzel. Furthermore, we have been involved in several projects with the Royal Danish Court and we are proud to call ourselves Purveyor to Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark.
