A timeless tablecloth that draws its inspiration from Japanese aesthetics and a design that is both alluring and charming in its fine balance between control and chaos.

Weaver and textile artist Kim Naver is the woman behind the design. The design is based on the Japanese pick-up sticks game of Mikado, which the tablecloth is also named after. The pattern is seemingly unstructured but on closer inspection is completely symmetrical. The MIKADO tablecloth was originally designed in 1991 and is back in our collection as a tribute to timeless Japanese minimalism and accomplished design.

The Black Blue colour of the design and the balance between strict minimalism and lack of order are clearly reflected in a powerful aesthetic experience. The dramatic blue MIKADO damask tablecloth captivates the room and integrates the essence of Japan into the table covering. Matching napkins woven in linen complete the expression.

About Damask

Georg Jensen Damask is a culture bearer within Danish design tradition as well as the history of craft. Our history is built on proud weaving traditions since 1756, but members of the family behind Georg Jensen Damask have been weavers all the way back to the 1500s.  The weaving is based on a classic design with a focus on functionality and quality both back then and today.

Throughout times we have worked together with some of the most acknowledged weavers, designers and architects, for example Arne Jacobsen, Cecilie Manz, Andreas Engesvik, Margrethe Odgaard and Nanna Ditzel. Furthermore, we have been involved in several projects with the Royal Danish Court and we are proud to call ourselves Purveyor to Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark.
