Tobias Jacobsen

Tobias Jacobsen

Tobias (born in 1965)  is originally a trained goldsmith, but later he served an apprenticeship as a designer and cabinetmaker and graduated as an industrial designer from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1996.

Tobias Jacobsen describes himself as a nostalgic designer who designs everyday objects for the modern era. The ambition as a designer is to create a dynamic home with a sense of nostalgia and functionality. When working from idea to design, the idea often originates from studying objects, which are known by high quality, handicraft and history.

The interest for design and handicraft originate from childhood where the childhood home was filled with furniture drawn by Tobias Jacobsen’s grandfather, one of the absolute greatest designers and architects in Denmark – Arne Jacobsen.

Tobias Jacobsen represents, apart from his own designs of furniture and interior decoration, also his grandfather’s design heritage. He has a deep respect and love for the products, which his grandfather created during his time. Tobias is like his grandfather very passionate and perfectionistic. Especially when it comes to his grandfather's design, he is very aware of which brand he is working on in order to secure that his responsibility towards design and quality is top nudges.

To Tobias Jacobsen,  architecture has always been a great source of inspiration, which is also reflected in the BRICKS design, which he has created on behalf of Georg Jensen Damask.  To his great surprise, the damask weaving presented a special three-dimensional expression that creates the same effect, which is present in the architecture.

About Damask

Georg Jensen Damask is a culture bearer within Danish design tradition as well as the history of craft. Our history is built on proud weaving traditions since 1756, but members of the family behind Georg Jensen Damask have been weavers all the way back to the 1500s.  The weaving is based on a classic design with a focus on functionality and quality both back then and today.

Throughout times we have worked together with some of the most acknowledged weavers, designers and architects, for example Arne Jacobsen, Cecilie Manz, Andreas Engesvik, Margrethe Odgaard and Nanna Ditzel. Furthermore, we have been involved in several projects with the Royal Danish Court and we are proud to call ourselves Purveyor to Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark.
